In November of 2012, Gina Mancuso ’00 was selected by Under30CEO as one of fourteen most promising young entrepreneurs to watch in the Washington, D.C. area. The young alumna is currently developing and launching an online clothes-shopping platform, LoveThatFit, which will allow users to see how clothes fit and look before making purchases. LoveThatFit is primed to revolutionize the way individuals shop for clothes online.
LoveThatFit uses photograph recognition technology to display the actual fit of clothing relative to a user’s body shape and size. The program generates realistic representations of how users will look in clothing based on the design’s cut and dimensions.
“LoveThatFit will bring greater confidence to the online clothes shopping experience,” said Ms. Mancuso. “By working directly with multiple retailers we are adding convenience to a one-stop marketplace for users. Also, the more one uses LoveThatFit, the more familiar the program becomes with an individual’s style and taste. Sophisticated algorithms will help make suggestions for future purchases, based on an individual’s shopping history.”
Ms. Mancuso went on to describe an additional benefit of shopping through the platform. “Besides finding the right dress or shirt, LoveThatFit also shows users when clothes aren’t necessarily flattering. Everyone wants positive feedback about the clothes they are buying, but negative feedback can be good too,” said Ms. Mancuso.
Through networking events in and around Washington, D.C., creative fundraising, and earning investment bids Ms. Mancuso’s was able to secure an investment to build an eight-person team. Together they built the online platform, secured retail and designer clothing lines, and are ready to launch the business.
Aware of the power of positive networking, Ms. Mancuso is active in The Hun School’s LinkedIn. She is also active through regional gatherings. “I want to become even more active in the alumni network at Hun and build business relationships that could be mutually beneficial. I would also be excited to speak with young alumni who are interested in tech startups, the fashion industry, and young entrepreneurs about internship opportunities at LoveThatFit,” explained Ms. Mancuso.
The Hun School of Princeton is an independent, coeducational, private day and boarding college preparatory school. Student-centered, hands-on learning prepares students for the global community in which they will live and work.
